This is a good learning tool. The 58mm thread size was perfect for my old kit lens, but now I've moved on and probably will not buy another lens with that thread size.

As far as quality goes, it is good considering the price. It takes a very steady hand to get super close up photos, and due to the way you focus (by moving closer or farther from the subject), you can't really use a tripod. I have taken a few pictures that turned out ok with this attachment, but for the most part, I think someone who wants to do a lot of macro work would be better served getting a dedicated macro lens. Depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend, I suppose.

This piece also works as a 10x magnifier for pictures or slides or anything, so I guess it will still come in handy for that.

This lens comes with protective covers and some basic instructions.

I absolutely love is 10x HD Macro lens...I have photographed many macro flowers and insects... and they came out fantastic..

Took a little getting used to the moving in and out to focus properly but it was worth the little effort you had to put into it..The image was so detailed you simply would not believe.....I would suggest using it with your smaller lens (ie. 18-55mm lens). I also own another macro/telephoto lens but I still can't the details as with the 10x HD lens.

I would recommemd this additonal lens to anyone who might be considering purchasing... have NO reservations... you won't be disapointed at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good!!, January 21, 2008

An awesome accessory to have, if you want to do a bit of macro...
A little hard initially when you want to learn focussing with this lens but as soon as u get a hang of it, this is a fun gadget.
I noticed that if you want to use it with ur 18-55 mm kit lens for canon xti, you cannot go below 24 mm else you get dark corners at very low focal lengths..
but in the ranges above 24 mm it creates awesome pictures..

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money - Particularly good for iPhone video, December 7, 2011

This review is from: Detachable 0.67X Wide Angle Macro Lens for Apple iPhone, iPod Nano 5, Camera Phones (Camera Lens Smaller than 9.5mm) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Overall it's cheap and does the job. Based on use on an iPhone 4:

Photos: Nice for wide shots but you get the "fisheye" effect (vigneting in the corners and considerable barrel distortion)

Videos: Very nice, due to the phone cropping the image for video, the vigneting is cropped out and barrel distortion less of an issue. The iPhone 4 and 4s have a particularly narrow lens which usually causes considerable shaking in handheld videos. Using a wide angle lens lessens this effect.

Macros: A nice feature but the camera looses it's ability to auto-focus. Focus is done by moving the object closer or further from the lens. Focus is around 1" from the lens which is quite close and the phone can often shadow the object you're taking the photo of. With a bit of fiddling around however, you can get good macros from this lens. (Note the lens separates into two pieces, using only the base for macro shots, and both for wide)

The adhesive ring with flash... Read more

Nice concept. I found the lens causing significant distortion to the image. See image added to the product description. It made it unusable for me.

The quality of this product is that of professional cameras but with the durability of a keychain ornament. The Macro lens magnifies far beyond standard and SLR digital camera Macro mode magnification and the wide angle is very effect. I suggest this product for nature enthusiasts such as mycologists and botanists who like to capture nature's beauty on the fly. This lens provides creative potential for anyone and provides a great scientific instrument for professors or consumers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Affordable all-purpose prime Micro Nikkor lens for Nikon DX DSLRs, August 30, 2011
This review is from: Nikon 40mm f/2.8G AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics)
The AF-S micro nikkor 40mm f2.8G is moderately fast or bright, contrasty and extremely sharp lens, just like all its siblings in the Nikkor Micro (Macro for other brands) interchangeable lenses. It appears that Nikon has consistently improve and exceeded expectations in this "special purpose lenses" category. Historically, every Nikkor (brand name for Nikon lenses) which are stamped with "Micro-Nikkor" are stellar performers and tops its class versus the competition, this new AF-S DX Micro Nikkor 40mm f2.8G is no exception.

This lens is the latest of the lineage dating from the Micro Nikkor 55mm f2.8 AIS mount manual focus lens of early 1980s, its FX-format (35mm film) equivalent is the higher specs current model Nikon AF-S Micro Nikkor 60mm f2.8G ED N which works as a 90mm on the smaller DX-format DSLR. This is an interchangeable bayonet Nikon "G" mount single focal length (prime) DX lens designed for Nikon DX-format APS-C sensor based Digital SLR cameras. It has a... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this instead of the 35mm f/1.8 DX, September 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Nikon 40mm f/2.8G AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics)
Many forum threads have pondered whether to choose the 40mm micro of the 35mm 1.8. I have owned both, used them extensively and can safely conclude that the 40mm micro/macro is the better all-around lens. It can do most the 35 can do, but offers the added bonus of macro and superior sharpness and resistance to chromatic aberration.

Here are the pros of the 35mm 1.8
- affordable prime lens
- fast 1.8 aperture makes it potentially wonderful for indoor and low-light shots when flash is not available or permitted
- extremely sharp if you get a good copy (I've owned two copies. One was tack sharp all the way down to f/1.8. The other had a lot of chromatic aberration and purple fringing wide open).
- great starter lens for a photo class

Here are the cons of the 35mm 1.8
- purple fringing wide open
- blurry wide open (what's the point of 1.8 if you can't use it?)
- lens hood is way too small
- build quality is plasticky (but this... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Macro on a budget, September 4, 2011
This review is from: Nikon 40mm f/2.8G AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics)
I purchased this at the local camera store. I have to say for the price this lens is great. I have it mounted on a Nikon D7000 and have produced some stunning macro shots. I can't believe the clarity with the lens only inches away from the subject. Also takes great portrait and landscape shots. I am well pleased with this recent offering from Nikon; they truly make great lenses.
